This long cairn stands atop a mountain overshadowing Three Cocks near Hay-on-Wye. The site is easy too find, although it is quite a walk from the road - and all uphill. Approaching from Brecon along the A438, heading for Hay; take the first left turn; just passed the old railway line nursery; as you enter the small village of Three Cocks.

You are now on the A4079; follow the road passed the Spread Eagle farm on your right. Just down the road you will come to a gate on your left, this is where we parked the car. Climb over the gate and you will immediately come to another rusty gate, pass through and head up through field to the right of the hedge. You will cross a small stream, keep heading for the corner of the field, where you will come across two rusty gates tied together; climb over and follow treeline up steep bank.

At the top you will come to another gate in the hedge, pass through and keep following the treeline on your left. Not far along you will come to a dammed off area and a small building just at the end of the tree line; following it around you will enter the field where the cairn is situated on your left as you enter. The cairn is a teardrop shape, the longest side being approximately 36 metres long. Atop the cairn are two stones, the tallest being approximately 4 feet tall and the second being 1 foot.

The stones stand on an East/West alignment, and the monument is overshadowed by a giant oak tree on its south-eastern corner. This is quite an impressive monument with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit, although an arduous uphill task.
