This is a nice monument, although situated in a strange place. It stands just off the touchline of a football pitch, but the pitch itself seems to be on private land. Either that or the six or so cows that were wondering around the site the day we visited, were part of a very obscure team. Although the stone appears to be square, it strangely twists and contorts itself to point in a northerly direction. It is definitely well worth a visit, and finding the monument is easy, as it can clearly be seen from B4358, heading toward Newbridge-on-Wye, from Beulah. As you pass a farm on your right, just before the bridge over the River Wye, pull in next to the gate on your right, and the stone can bee seen, a couple of hundred yards behind the farmhouse, right next to the football field. We have no knowledge of this monument, only what we have seen, it seems to be simply part of the landscape, perched prominently on open ground. As usual, enshrouded in mystery |
