For some time this site
eluded us. We blame ourselves for this, as we assumed the two stones on the
map we were using were simply a misprint. We got them confused with the
“Waldo” memorial stone and the Stonehenge memorial bluestone, both of
which are in the same area, but either side of the road. On closer study of the Land
Ranger map and a nagging doubt in my head, we set out to find the two
stones. Sure enough, there they were exactly where the map stated. Finding the site is easy.
From the A478, at Glandy Cross, follow the narrow road heading for the
campsite. Just passed the campsite entrance on the same road bear left at
the fork heading for Mynachlog-Ddu. The road will continue to bear left, you
need to then bear right following the sign for Rosebush. Continue for a very
short while, you will soon see the “Waldo” memorial stone, park here. The opposite side of the road
you will see the Stonehenge memorial bluestone, walk over to this and to
your left you will see a fence, head straight to the fence from the stone.
The two stones are situated just the other side. The stones are of differing
size. The taller measuring approximately 2 metres and the shorter 1.5 metres.
The taller stone has a slight easterly lean, whilst the smaller of the two
has a slight westerly lean. The distance between the two stones is
approximately 1.9 metres. Worth visiting, indeed, this entire area is rich
with such monuments. |
