Following
the same road from the Mynachlog-Ddu
stones, toward Rosebush, you will soon come to Cerrig Meibion Arthur
“The Stones of Arthur’s Sons” They are in fact just round the corner and can be seen from the road on your right. The way we went to the site was to leave the road and follow a particularly rough track to the right, which leads to Cwm Garw Farm. There is no doubt the site can be reached from the main road, but it does seem a fair trek across the marshland, where as the track will bring you within a few hundred yards of the monument. Once again the site consists of two stones, one being just over 2.4 metres tall, the other being just over 2.1 metres. They are said to be approximately 2.7 metres apart and stand on an East-West alignment - although these are not our measurements. We have only visited the site once, unfortunately without a measuring tape, but we will definitely be returning for better pictures etc. Legend has it that the stones mark the spot where King Arthur’s sons were killed by a wild boar from Ireland, known as the Twrch Trwyth. In fact this entire area is linked strongly with the legends of King Arthur. On a ridge between this site and Carn Menyn can be found Bedd Arthur “Arthur’s Grave” and just below that, Carn Arthur. |
