This mighty monolith had eluded us for some time.
As it happens it is extremely easy to find and well worth a visit, especially as it is a pillar stone.
Travelling along the A40 from Brecon, travel through Bwlch and down the hill; at the nasty left-hand turn; take a right toward Llangynidr on the B4560; follow the narrow road for a short while until you get to Llangynidr Bridge - do not cross the bridge - park the car without causing an obstruction and climb the gate to your left.
You now need to take the path to your left and climbing up through the trees; follow the path for a short while crossing a downed fence; after doing so head right; following the flow of the river.
You are now on a wider, much more obvious path. Soon you will pass an electricity pole on your left; keep on going for a short while until the path drops to a point where the fence on your left becomes easily accessible; over to the fence; just inside the field to your left you should be looking at a huge tree next to a small holly bush. The tree line rises uphill and the stone is situated within the tree line, although it can’t be seen from the fence, as you start up the hill it soon becomes very visible.
This is an extremely impressive monument, in a very tranquil setting, perched high above the River Usk. The site is an easy stroll, about ten minutes from the bridge.
