This collapsed tomb now lies in ruins within a field boundary. Its massive capstone sits amongst other large stones, about five or so, which were probably once the monuments uprights. It has been suggested that the monument is a portal dolmen, which may have once centred a circular mound. It has also been suggested that due to its position within the earthen boundary, its foundations may still be intact. We came across the monument purely by accident. After an aborted trek up Carn Menyn, due to bad weather, we pulled over to consult the map and the capstone caught our eye. It was a bit of a trudge through the wet marshy ground to get to the monument, but well worth it. Finding the site: From the junction in Mynachlog-Ddu, turn right and follow the road for quite a way, heading for Crymych. You will come to the entrance to Blaen Llethr Farm. The monument is situated within the boundary of the field opposite. Permission should be sought before visiting the monument. |
