We found locating this stone to be a bit of a nightmare, probably due to our impatience and the fact that we did not adhere to the information we had available to us at the time. From Usk, heading toward Pontypool, cross the bridge and turn left, heading for Caerleon. Continue on this road until you enter the village of Llangybi. You now need to take a sharp left passed the church and continue down the road / track until you come to a water pumping station on your right. Park there and continue through the gate marked “No Access”. There is no need to worry as this seems to be a popular dog walking track, so we believe it meant no access for vehicles. Further on keeping to the track, you will happen upon an opening opposite the stone. The stone itself has very similar characteristics to that of the Rogiet stone. The most obvious being their shapes as both stones are pointed at the top and both are of similar height, the Llangybi stone measuring approximately 6 feet. As with the Rogiet stone the Llangybi stone would have also been significant to the cultural landscape of the area. |
