This impressive monument with its massive capstone is a captivating feature of the Pembrokeshire coastal path, just above Manobier Bay. Finding the site is easy. From the beach car park just below Manobier castle head to the beach. At the beach turn left and head for beginning of the path at the far-left bottom corner of the cliff. Continue up the path and you will soon come to the monument, right in front of you, literally on the path. The Kings Quoit boasts one of the most dramatic settings of any such monument of its kind we have visited. On a sunny summers day you simply have to climb atop its mighty capstone and take in the almost mesmerising views of the surrounding area. It is believed that the monument never had a covering mound due to the fact that the ledge on which it sits is simply too narrow to support one. Therefore it would certainly have been a focal point for people using land and sea from the Neolithic to the present day. This site has to be visited, especially recommended on a lazy summer Sunday afternoon. |
