This stone is a rather large boulder like, diamond shaped stone, relatively easy to find from the car park of Usk Reservoir. Coming from the direction of Sennybridge you enter the small village of Trecastle. As the road levels out, at the bottom of the approaching hill you will pass an antique shop and tea-rooms on your right; you need to take the left turn opposite; past the school and up the hill. The road is narrow and winding. Do not turn off this road; you will pass the right hand turn toward Cerrig Y Pigwn - keep going. You will need to go quite a way until you come to the Reservoir. At the base of the dam you will need to take the road to the left; over a small bridge, this will take you to the car park. You can park up and set off on foot, up the steep bank toward the picnic area, which is usually overgrown; you then need to climb the fence; into the field beyond; head toward the gate, go through and follow the fence line to your right, as not to disturb the hundreds of sheep that always seem to occupy the field. As you go over the brow of the field you will clearly be able to see the stone just beyond the far fence. This again is a private field, therefore permission should be sought before visiting the stone. Respect for the animals and surrounding environment should be paramount. This stone is a monster, in every sense of the word. Perched on a hillside, and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Well worth a visit. |
