Gwal-Y-Filiast, is an incredible sight, its surroundings are so tranquil. We visited the monument on a beautiful, sunny, autumn day, the ground was strewn with fallen leaves, one side of the capstone was covered in thick green moss. We were lucky to have a guide, when we first visited the site, the sheepdog from the nearby farm led us straight to the monument. As you walk to the chamber you may notice small standing stones to your left, on the lightly higher ridge. At first they appear to be gateposts, but we did wonder if they were once markers leading to the monument. Of all the monuments we have visited so far, Gwal-Y-Filiast has to be our favourite. The way it is perched on a woodland hillside, high above the River Tāf is just simply breathtaking. |
