The Maen Mawr standing stone, stands to the north of the Cerrig Duon stone circle. The stone is a domineering feature of the area in which it stands. Approximately 2 feet to the north of the stone are two smaller stones, each standing 2 feet tall. These two stones suggest that Maen Mawr was originally erected as a shadow stone, the two smaller stones marking the shadow cast by Maen Mawr at the rising of the sun at a specific time of year. This entire site is exceptional; we have visited it a number of times, at various times of the year, and believe us when we say that watching the sunset as a backdrop to the stone is nothing short of magical.
