These two boulder stones are situated in the most idyllic and tranquil place, although not extremely impressive, and more than likely ancient boundary markers, they possess an air of mystery. They cannot surely be written off as just being put here to divide land due to the fact that their size would have meant quite a lot of effort and for what reason. Perhaps it’s just my romantic notions of ancient ritual practices and the mysticism surrounding such megalithic monuments that let my over active imagination get carried away. But without such imaginative notions, then surely all such monuments would be reduced to being simply rocks in fields. So these two stones at one time had a purpose, and we like this place so that’s that. Getting to the site leads you through gorgeous countryside. From the A483, heading toward Beulah you will enter Llanwrtyd Wells, as you cross the bridge you need to turn left heading for Abergwesyn. Follow the road and you will soon cross a river bridge, as you do there is a church in front of you, take a right turn and follow the road as it winds along the foot of the mountainside. Soon you will pass through a farm, which is situated on either side of the road as the road bears right. Just a bit further you will pass the Cwm Irfon Lodge, on your left, as you do the stones can clearly be seen in the hedge dividing the field on your right. Quite difficult to find, due to the fact that, as the picture shows, they are hidden within a hedge. The best time to go looking for these is during the Autumn (Fall) when the trees etc have no or less leaves Measurements: Stone 1 [small] - H:0.8m W:0.7m D:0.6m Stone 2 [largest] - H:1.5m W:1.8m D:0.8m |
