As with so many of the sites we have visited, we had no prior information about this monument, it was simply indicated on the Land Ranger so we went along to check it out, and were pleasantly surprised with what we found. The monument itself is approximately 90 feet long by 45 feet wide, its orientated north / south, with what we consider to be at least three chambers visible. It is situated atop an embankment near what was Castell Dinas. Finding the monument is easy. Following the A479, from Talgarth, heading toward Crickhowell, it is just passed the Castell Dinas pub, if memory serves me correctly. You have to take a left turn down a narrow road and the visible chambers of the monument can clearly be seen on your right. It is possible the monument could be seen from the main road, but the day we visited it was obscured by an enormous pile of manure, which added to the fruitful aroma of the area. |
