Whilst visiting Carn Lechart ring cairn, we noticed what appeared to be a boulder like stone, perched high on the hillside of the field opposite.  Curiosity led us up to the stone and what we found, literally took our breath away.  As we approached the big stone we saw another, and another, which led us to the top of the field.  Although the stones were relatively small, what we saw next was amazing, for at the back of the field was a very large pillar like stone, as we approached it we could see it was in alignment with two smaller triangular shaped stones.

The intriguing thing about it was that the two smaller stones are faced at different angles to each other. It’s as if the alignment is a giant sundial, or at least that’s the impression it gives. The hillside of this site leads down to a flattened off plateau, on which is yet another standing stone, the rim of the plateau, which is a sort of rampart, leads to the gate where we entered the field and another standing stone. At the top of the field a number of small stones are visible, many of which sunken in the ground.

We are completely at a loss to explain this site. What we ca not understand is that it has never been mentioned before, as we saw it clearly from the ring cairn, then how come nobody else seems to have spotted it?  If anybody has any information about it, please get in touch.  If, however, you are familiar with Carn Lechart, please go and visit this site and let us know your findings.

The directions are the same as Carn Lechart, but from the car turn left, and climb over the stile, the boulder stone can clearly be seen, from there continue to the top of the field to find the rest.

At the time of writing this, we charted almost a dozen stones, but pictures 2 and 3 in the gallery are of the same stone.  Not all the stones are on this site at this time, but we are working on it
