It has been suggested that this is one of the largest ring cairns in Wales. The monument comprises of 25 stones, all leaning slightly outward. The stones surround a small vandalised central burial cist.

* The monument measures approximately 12 metres in diameter.

Finding the monument is easy, and you can drive to within a few hundred yards of it. From the A474, at Rhyd-Y-Fro heading up the hill toward Brynamman. Take a left turn just before a garage; follow this road, using your Landranger for reference.

Some distance up the hill you will come to a very sharp turn to your left. This will lead you up the side of the mountain. The road then turns sharply right and continues until it becomes a track. Continue along this until you can’t go any further. At the end, the track drops down, we always park on top to avoid getting stuck.

From this point the monument is a few hundred yards up on your right. In the area of the monument there are apparently a burial chamber and some cairns. We have never looked for these as we came across something uncharted, which absolutely blew us away.

In a field back where we parked the car, we came across no fewer than 12 standing stones. None of which we have seen on any website or in any publication before or since. We called them the “Lechart Stones” to view them, please go here.  All in all this area is a must for any megalithic visitor, on a sunny day the place, the views, the monuments are simply astounding.
